Summary:

A banquet captain is a professional who manages the overall event, staff and guests during banquets and other food-related events. Banquet captains ensure the satisfaction of guests throughout the entire meal and event by preparing the banquet area, communicating with chefs and servers and responding to food and drink requests.

 

A banquet captain's main duties and responsibilities include monitoring staff and guests during meals and preparing for these events.

 

Scope:

Approaching duties with an ownership mentality, professional, and service – oriented personality, the Banquet Captain will be responsible for the complete service of any/all assigned events. The banquet captain will attend to his / her duties, by working off the information noted on all Banquet Event Orders provided by the Group Events Manager.

 

He / she will also serve as the main contact with clients for the assigned event and work closely with clients to ensure 100% guest satisfaction.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Gain thorough understanding of all criteria and expectations as detailed on the Banquet Event Order.
  • Training new staff members
    Presenting policy changes, updates and other messages to staff
  • Organizing meetings with staff as needed
  • Ensuring communication between all staff
  • Delegating tasks to staff to ensure proper event set up
  • Holding Pre-shift meetings with all staff
  • Maintaining proper etiquette in front of guests
  • Resolving team member or guest issues
  • Maintaining stockroom inventory levels on all banquet supplies
  • Communicating with event organizers and venue staff
  • Responding to decoration/set up requests from guests for special events
  • Making team member schedules
  • Noting any special dietary requirements for guests
  • Verify that all buffets are correctly labeled with signage identifying menu item
    Enforcing company policies
  • Ensuring proper sanitation of the utensils, glasses, dishes, serving wares
  • Helping disassemble tables and equipment after events end
  • Overseeing and approving room resets at the end of each event
  • Attending weekly BEO Meetings with Event Director, Event Coordinator, and Chef
  • Perform any reasonable request as assigned or directed by management.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Two years of experience in a similar position required

Computer Skills:

  • Basic software knowledge in MS Word, Excel and reservation system.
  • Knowledge in a restaurant point of sale service platform preferred.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

Full-time position, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  Flexibility in work hours required  


Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:

Work is performed in a restaurant environment both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active member and employee communication; May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, and stooping.  May also be subject to moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds with assistance and objects in excess of 50 pounds with assistance.  Stands, sits, or walks for an extended period. 

 

In addition, the candidate for this position must own reliable transportation, have good conversational English skills, be punctual and present themselves in an appropriate manner for a Country Club environment.
