  • Overview


    To professionally execute banquet functions through the set-up, service, and tear-down phases of assigned events. To lead banquet service team and serve as liaison between client and club for assigned event.



    Approaching duties with an ownership mentality, professional, and service – oriented personality, the Banquet Captain will be responsible for the complete service of any/all assigned events. The banquet captain will attend to his / her duties, by working off of the information noted on all Banquet Event Orders provided by the Group Events Manager.


    The Captain will oversee the timely and accurate set up of an event(s), will lay out work assignments for set up, servers and bartenders. Responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of function rooms and proper storage of equipment. Communicates any repair and/or cleaning issues to Engineering and/or Housekeeping department for action. He / she will also serve as the main contact with clients for the assigned event and work closely with client to insure 100% guest satisfaction.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Gain thorough understanding of all criteria and expectations as detailed on the Banquet Event Order.


    Insure that all equipment and supplies necessary for successful execution are on hand prior to event set up and start time.


    Monitor the set up of an event according to the BEO and any other special instructions.


    Before the event begins, bring service team together to have a meeting. Go over timeline, food service, menu, and any other special instructions for the event.


    Introduce yourself and work closely with the client throughout set-up, service and post-event. Respond to clients’ needs.


    Keep track of the schedule of the event. Monitor culinary production and food delivery.


    Pay special attention to any guest of honor, head table or client.


    Stay highly visible during event so that client and service staff can relay information.


    For functions involving alcohol, closely monitor bartender activity and fully engage in all TIPS and alcohol awareness training. The captain and/or bartender has authority and duty to deny service to intoxicated individuals.


    Provide hands-on management approach and work with service team, assisting them and supporting them.


    At conclusion of event, meet with client to get feedback and get banquet check signed prior to closing check out. Be certain that banquet check, BEO and actual served guests are accurate.  


    Work with service team in total breakdown of events, returning all appropriate equipment and supplies to designated areas, leaving function room clean.


    Complete Banquet Recap day of event, reporting F&B revenue before and after service charge and tax, guest feedback and any challenges encountered during event.


    Responsible for quarterly inventory on linens, skirts, tables, chairs, banquet equipment, AV equipment, etc.


    Demonstrate all policies, procedures, rules, and safety standards as established by company handbook


    Perform any reasonable request as assigned or directed by management.


    Education and/or Experience:

    High School Diploma required

    One year of experience in similar position required

    Computer Skills:
    Basic software knowledge in MS Word, Excel and reservation system. Knowledge in a restaurant point of sale service platform preferred.


    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work & Benefits:

    Full-time position, with benefits, including evenings, weekends and holidays.  Flexibility in work hours preferred. 

    Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:

    Work is performed in a restaurant environment both indoors and outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active member and employee communication; May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, and stooping.  May also be subject to moving, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds with assistance and objects in excess of 50 pounds with assistance.  Stands, sits, or walks for an extended period. 


    In addition, the candidate for this position must own reliable transportation, have good conversational English skills, be punctual and present themselves in an appropriate manner for a Country Club environment.
